What is Reiki ?
The practice of Reiki is a method of healing that
was developed by Mikao Usui in the early 20th century. He was a
Buddhist Monk living in Japan, who passed his abilities and secret
symbology down to his students through lineages which are
still continued today.
Activated by intention, the natural
healing energy works on the
physical, mental and emotional aspects of the body encouraging it to
self heal. A special kind of healing technique which the
healer has to be attuned to.
Reiki, which is pronounced
ray-key is made up of two words;
'Rei'
meaning
‘Universal Life Force’
and
'Ki' meaning
‘Energy’
This universal life
force energy flows through all living things and is the key to
our very existence. We all have this 'ki' energy in and around us.
Absolutely everything that lives has it.
'Ki' energy known as ‘Chi' in
China and ‘prana' in India is
channelled through
the healer's hands to the recipient. Shiatsu, yoga, tai-chi
and acupuncture
are amongst some of the practices which are based on the free flow of
this beautiful energy in the body. Reiki is a very useful tool and is effective
for tapping into this source of energy to stimulate the body to self heal.
It can benefit
you in many ways. We all live very hectic lives and suffer from
stress, sometimes without even knowing it. It has a very calming
effect on your physical body which in turn brings about healing to
your mental and emotional body.
Clients report very positive personal changes in
lifestyle and even in the working environment, as well as the physical
and emotional well-being and peace of mind that this beautiful free
flowing energy gives to you. It is a wonderful therapy which can be used in a very
positive way by all. I know of many children who have been attuned to
reiki, my own son was attuned at the age of twelve, causing a massive
turn-around in his attitude and approach towards all things in his
life.
It is a non-invasive therapy and may be used with confidence
alongside conventional medication or natural remedies because it acts
in a complementary way.
Treatments are always relaxed and
unrushed. You will receive reiki whilst lying down or sitting, in a
comfortable and relaxing, peaceful environment. There is no need to remove any
clothing.
Hands are gently placed, in a series of
positions, on, over or around you, and reiki 'ki' energy is
automatically drawn into your body. Reiki goes to the places
where it is needed and continues to work even after you have
left the treatment, healing the body on whatever level is needed for
you at any given time. There are many ways in which you
may feel reiki but not everyone feels something, it does not mean
that reiki is not working if you are not aware of any of these feelings.
Whatever happens to you
is right for you at that time. Mild tingling, warmth or coolness
from the hands may be felt, sometimes colours or
images may be seen by you. A deep sense of
well-being or renewed vitality can be sensed. Clients have
reported an over-whelming sense of peace during a treatment.
It is usually beneficial to
spend the rest of the day in a relaxing and peaceful way to allow reiki to
continue it's work.
